Still Life Photography with Models: Bulk and Texture on Skin

Still Life Photography with Models: Bulk and Texture on Skin 900 900 Studio Concept S.r.l.

Texture still life is study and experience, especially when the narrative takes place on the skin. We at Studio Concept defend the art of reality.

What is texture?

Texture is the mainstay of photography in cosmetics; visual communication has the power to express the immediate feel. Translating its characteristics into shapes and colours succeeds in conveying the impression at a glance.

The product image polarises the customer’s attention and conveys the feel of the cosmetic upon application. The texture thus conveys the tactile elements of the product through the image, herein lies the added value in high-quality photography.

Lighter therefore less greasy or more full-bodied and moisturising, texture is a critical element in product choice. For more or less dry and young skin, but also for men or women, the image provides valuable as well as immediate information.

Bulk technique: showing the real product on the models’ bodies

Creativity is the valuable added value, but the customer appreciates reality. Here the still life is called upon to render the effect of the product when applied to the skin, spreading helps to describe it better.

Although still life on skin requires even more resources, this type of shot returns a good consideration on the part of the customer. The product photograph is called upon to portray a real image of face cream on skin.

If INCI and descriptions are instrumental in choosing the most suitable cosmetic, showing the cosmetic on the live body provides even more immediate information. Before any other detail, the customer wants to know the texture and feel directly on the skin. This is how cosmetics arrive.

Stimulate the senses with the right image

It only takes two seconds, the time of a quick glance entrusts the choice process to instinct. Sight but also smell and touch are the senses most affected in the immediate phase, the right shot goes far beyond the image.

The ingredients communicate the natural origin of the product. Positioned in the background, they emphasise the nature of the cosmetic. Elements such as water enhance the perception of a refreshing product, the shot under a container filled with water provides an enthralling impression.

Framing the packaging in one’s hands restores the feeling of delicacy, all the more so if perfectly manicured hands are holding it. Photographing the product against a snowy background stimulates the touch, evoking the feeling of softness. This is how the shot stimulates the senses.

Solid.O Original line development

The collaboration is with Albogroup, a particularly sparkling reality in the prestige cosmetics sector. Here, photography is called upon to translate the visual concept into clearly defined shots, the solid cosmetic meets the skin, releasing a light lather. The texture of the soap is shown in the image.

The palette is an exercise in tunefulness, the choice of soft colours leaves room for the feeling of relaxation. The product introduces a different alternative to the chorus but does so with a strong respect for the skin. The bulk technique reinforces the concept.

Respectful in its compositions, the photograph is reinforced by the combination of several products. The sense is to present a complete range, through a display open to the multiple applications of the solid solution. Consistent with the concept, each composition tickles the interest.

Use the correct lighting

Capturing the essence of the product on the skin is a matter of detail. As many as 7 different light sources may be needed, only then does the adjustment become so fine as to emphasise precisely the desired detail. The balance is a game between overexposure and underexposure, the most suitable power is suggested by experience.

Working on detail means preparing the field as well as possible, white gloves are a must because even the slightest speck of dust can soil the quality of the original shot. The study of light is best expressed in very high definition RAW, of course this also applies to errors.

The balance between the shots is the thread that unites the cosmetics of the same collection, the secret lies in maintaining the same lighting. The products must therefore be prepared in succession, this applies even more if the light source is natural.

Photo retouching post-production

Yes, AI has revolutionised photo editing in post-production. Machine learning allows for dramatically higher levels of accuracy, the algorithms also work to make the image more consistent with the brand’s style.

Absolute perfection, however, comes at the risk of standardised flattening; this is where creativity entrusted to the graphic arts comes into play. The trained eye can grasp the boundary between a valuable image and one too perfect to be true. Art is interpretation and balance.

Working on texture in contact with skin is above all a matter of ethics, crossing the fine line between perfection and reality can mislead images. Still life is the art of interpreting reality, its respect is the prerogative of valuable cosmetics.

The art of still life photography with models and the revelation of textures on the skin transforms each cosmetic product into a profound and engaging visual experience. We at Studio Concept have embraced this approach to enhance the beauty of the products and to effectively communicate the quality and feel they offer.
